Cool Things to Do

Here are a few cool opportunities for our scouts:

1) I’m a member of the LaGuardia Airport Kiwanis Club, and they are seeking our assistance at their annual Kids Day event.  They need Boy Scouts to assist in serving hot dogs to everyone for the day.  There are roughly 1000-4000 people that attend this event each year, so the club is looking for a good 50-75 Scouts.  They would need to show up at 10:00am on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Marine Air Terminal of LaGuardia Airport.  They’ll be provided with gloves and everything else needed to provide service.  The uniform isn’t required, but it would be good for them to wear it for the sake of exposure.

2) We have 10 spots available, ONLY can hold them through this weekend.

Youth Leaders (Must read for scouts)

This year we are going to require that ALL Youth in a leadership position (qualify for advancement for Star, Life & Eagle) are fully trained in their positions.

This means they will have to complete a Troop JLT (Junior Leader Training) &  District JLT. Attendance is NOT optional. If the course’s are not completed the scout will relinquish their leadership position.

The Troop JLT will be before 3 meetings at Trinity (Sep 19, Sep 26, Oct 3) & District JLT is Oct 14 & Nov 11 at 730p (4037 61st St, Woodside, NY 11377)

These training are open to all, not just those who are leaders.

In order to effectively run a growing troop having trained leaders is essential.

Beginning of the Year Update

A lot of you have called and asked about the start of the new scout year. So here are some important dates to add to your calendar:

September 5 – First Scout Meeting – Back to Full Uniform – All scouts MUST bring their book

September 26 – Parents Meeting (All asked to attend) followed by a Court of Honor to recognize our scouts success this summer

October 3 – First Committee Meeting

October 10 – 13 – First Camping Trip, Location TBA.

Just to clarify, we will still have regular meetings on the weeks in between these dates. We just wanted to make sure you added these IMPORTANT dates to your calendar.

Have a great rest of the summer, and I will see you all soon.

Adult Volunteer Needed for Friday

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the movies this Friday, so I am looking for an adult who can take the lead.

It is very simple, all you have to do is show up (at trinity), let the scouts know what non-rated-R movies are playing and let them decide what they want to see, within reason (since we meet at 6, a movie with a 9p start time wouldn’t make any sense). Enjoy the movies with the scouts & make sure all scouts are picked up after.

Please let Mike know ASAP if you can take this role. Thanks.

All Hands on Deck This Saturday – Richard’s Eagle Project

So an expectation that I have for the members of this troop going forward is: When one of our scouts is doing an Eagle Project, ALL youth members & any adults are there to help.

This is new Troop 106 mantra, and will allow us to see at least 15 new eagle scouts in the next 5 years.  When you are part of an Eagle project you begin to understand the purpose of the project, and it helps to illuminate our scouts paths to Eagle as well.

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value”.

–Albert Einstein

With all of that being said, Richard needs you all at the church at 9A on Saturday. If you have a scheduling conflict and are not able to be there on Saturday, I encourage the scout himself (not his parents) to call Mike and make alternative arrangements to help with Richard’s project in another way.

Scouts is about working together to accomplish our goals.

Thanks

Richard Page Eagle Project

It has been a while since a Troop 106 scout has worked on an Eagle Project.

I am proud to announce that Richard Page has a project that was just approved and he needs your help.

He is doing a blood drive, which will take place when most of us are up at camp (Sat Aug 9). In order to drive traffic & raise awareness to his project he will be flyering a large part of Middle Village. The info on that is below:

When: Saturday Aug 2

Where: Meet at Trinity Lutheran Church

When: 9A

Uniforms are NOT required. Volunteers (parents and siblings are more than welcome) will be given a map and will be responsible for flyering all the houses on various blocks.

Any questions direct to Richard at [email protected]

These are the last steps of Richard’s journey to Eagle, and needs ALL of your support. Please make sure you are there. He also will need over 30 blood donors on the 9th, but more info will go out about that shortly.
