For Completing your first camping trip as a Boy Scout. I know you guys had a great time and look forward to seeing you on future trips.

Congratulations are also in order for Phillip S. who was the only scout to complete the 1 page essay covering 2 places of interests in DC. Great Job Phillip, I look forward to you possibly being our tour guide at the Lincoln Memorial & Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Lastly, I would like to congratulate Werner Plut & Keith Arundel on completing their first camping trips as Assistant Scoutmasters.

If you know anything that someone deserves to be recognized on (can be non scouting related as well), please reach out to Mike.

Service Opportunity for scouts not going to TMR

The Pathfinder District has on many occasions requested to use space at the Onderdonk-House in Flushing for meetings and events. They have supported us admirably.

They now have a need and hopefully we can accommodate. On this coming Sunday they are in need of help with their Harvest Festival. Normally they have plenty of hands to help with the pumpkins and face painting etc.

This year not enough volunteers have come forward. They will have about 500 children rushing to participate. Many hands make for light work.

We are asking if any of our scouting family can find the time to help with this worthwhile community event. It will take place from 12 noon to 4pm. If you have any time to give it would be appreciated.

If you can contact Rein Olvet at 718-894-6636 ahead of time that would be great or if you find the time at the last moment just come on down. Older scouts or adults would be appreciated. Even if you are not a scouter they can use your help.

Any scout attending will receive points towards Scout of the Month.

REMINDERS for TMR Trip

The weather forecast looks like we may encounter some cold weather so please pack accordingly. The scouts will be sleeping in tent’s or lean-to’s so make sure they have their sleeping bags and enough warm & dry clothes, especially since at least one set is guaranteed to get wet with out rafting trip. Please also pack a silver barn type plastic bag so that the scouts can pack a change of clothes to get into after we make it down the river.

As mentioned previously scouts are NOT permitted to bring cell phones or electronic devices on the trip. Adults going are allowed to bring theirs, we just request that it is solely used for business or important personal matters. Mike will have his cell phone if any parent needs to get in contact with their child.

Also, we will be rafting on Saturday from 9a-6p. Mike will be leaving his cell phone is his car so during that time we will have essentially no cell phone access at all if you are trying to get in contact with us.

If anyone has any questions about what to bring please email/call/text Mike

Get 50 points towards Scout of the Month for October

******THIS CONTEST IS NO LONGER RUNNING*******

For October I am giving out my 50 points of discretion out to each and any scout who does the following:

– Pick 2 places of historical importance in Washington DC

– Write a half page on each why that place is important and why you would like to visit it.

We will visit some of the best written entries, where the scout who writes about it will get a chance to be our personal tour guide for that attraction and will also receive bonus points.

It must be submitted to Mike by 10/8, no later than 5p.

This will be the ONLY way to earn the SM discretionary points in the month of October.

Troop Webmaster

I am very pleased to announce that the Troop now has a scout who will be the webmaster.

Phillip took the role and will be posting information and updates all year long on the website.

If you want to have something posted on the website please send it to Mike at [email protected] and he will get it over to Phillip.

So going forward most of the posts will come from Phillip (pschlesinger), but feel free to still reach out Mike at any time as he will still be posting updates as well.

Congrats Phillip!
