Now Accepting Monetary Donations!

With the help of Order of the Arrow Suanhacky Lodge #49 (they let us use their paypal account as it take a while to set one up), we are NOW accepting financial donations for our Sandy Relief Drive.

100% of the money donated goes to those affected, allowing us to buy the things that they need the most. With some of the donations made yesterday we were able to purchase: 85 pairs of thermal socks, 192 pairs of gloves, and hundreds of batteries.

All of your HELP is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance. Kindly click one of the donations links below to give some IMMEDIATE assistance to those who need it most.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED

We are trying to get word out about our clothing/food/other stuff drive out. If everyone could help us make this go viral that would great. We ask that you do both of the following things:
1) Copy and Paste this email, and send to all of your contacts (Please also add jpg and pdf copy of the file):
Title: Scouts’ Sandy Relief Effort

body:Hello Everyone,

Hoping that you all made it through the storm safe and sound.

We have all watched the damage and devastation that Sandy has brought to our neighbors in Broad Channel, Breezy Point and the Rockaways and thought ‘Wow, I wish I could help but…’. Here’s your chance!

Boy Scout Pack & Troop106 based out of Trinity Lutheran are organizing a relief effort to benefit the families on the Rockaway Peninsula that lost everything to fires last weekend. Most of our communities weathered the storm fairly well and are in a good position to help those who need it the most. Please help me get the word out to all of your email and facebook contacts (Let’s go viral!). Donations can be brought to Trinity Lutheran Church (6370 Dry Harbor Road, Middle Village, NY 11379) this Sunday from 1-3 and every night next week from 6-8 pm. Attached is our flyer in pdf and jpg form.

Thanks in advance for all of your help,

BSA Pack & Troop 106

2) Logon to Facebook and upload the jpg of our flyer, then copy and paste the following note to go along with the picture:

Hurricane Sandy Clothing/Food/Other Stuff Drive

Pack & Troop 106 will be running a drive to help those in the low-lying areas affected by the storm.

Here is what we will be doing:

On Saturday 11/3 we will be putting a flyer (see below) in every door in Middle Village (all hands on deck unless you have a prior commitment)

From Sunday 11/4 – Friday 11/9 we will have a table setup at Trinity for those who come by with donations. (signup sheet will be passed around on Friday)

One day after 11/9 (working on the details now) we will head to Rockaway/Breezy Point/Broad Channel to get everything to the people that need it.

The first eight words of the Scout Oath are:

On my honor, I will do my best

We are now going to live that Oath we repeat every week to help those that need it most.

If you have any questions reach out to Mike, See you all Friday.

Here is a copy of the flyer that will be going out: Sandy Drive

WE NEED 10,000 copies made, if anyone has a connection to a printer please let Mike know immediately.

Service Opportunity Today

Hopefully everyone is ok, if anyone needs anything please call me. We lost tv and Internet (posting this from my phone) here but still have power.

Today is a great opportunity for everyone to do service to help others. I am not going to call everyone together as a collective group as the roads are still an issue in many areas.

Any scout who does service today to help others (not at your own house) will receive TRIPLE points towards scout of the month. So that means if you do 3-5 hours you will get 75 points and 6-8 will get 150 points. Since a scout is trustworthy this will all be on the honor system, but please take pictures so we can post them on the site.

As I said earlier. PLEASE reach out to me if there is anything you need.

Storm Advice (Please Read)

I am posting this not because it is troop related, but rather as a reminder for those who may be missing something and not realize it. If power go outs and stays out for any extended period of time your preparation now will impact what you go through.

Here are some NOT SO OBVIOUS things you should IMMEDIATELY do:

Go to the bank and take out CASH, if power goes out, whatever is open will only be taking cash.

Fill up all of your cars gas tanks. No power = No gas

Charge all and any rechargable batteries you have.

Make sure you have ample ice to refrigerate the basics. No power = No Fridge.

Fully charge all electronics, even the ones you only occasionally use.

Ensure all flashlights, candles and lighters are in an easy to get to location. (remember to always keep an eye on open flames)

Fill up your bathtub, most water pumps are electric, you are NOT to use this water to drink.  It sitting stagnate for an extended period of time makes it border on not being potable. You  would use this for cleaning and washing.

If your lights go out turn everything off, and keep it all off as when they go back on the electric voltage has a tendency to fry electronics.

Hope everyone is ok, PLEASE feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns or need advice on something.

Reminders

Here are 4 reminders for this Friday:

1) It is a Class B Uniform Meeting, So you just need your Class B shirt to be considered in full uniform.

2) A $60 Non-refundable deposit is due for ANYONE who is going to DC. This applies to both youth and adults. We had to book the hotel rooms already in order to lock in the rate and will be cancelling any unneeded rooms on Saturday. Mike (with the committee’s approval) will not be making ANY exceptions to this. Any questions should be directed to him.

3) Bring your bolo’s, we will be working on them.

4) There will be a TLC meeting after the regular meeting, all youth leaders are expected to attend and everyone else is welcome.

See you all Friday.

Cheesecake & Pies

It’s that time of year again. This is a great opportunity for the scouts to raise some money which they can use towards future trips.

A group of adult troop leaders at TMR decided that this fundraiser would also be open to the adults in the troop. So any cakes/pies that adults sell, they can get credit for if they so wish.

The Cake/Pies run between $15-$18. The person selling them will get $5 (in their account) for each one they sell. We get them from Cascone’s Bakery in Bayside/Whitestone.

The Forms will be given out at Friday’s Meeting or Click Here to Download: Pie

Forms must be turned in with all monies by November 7th. Pies will need to be picked up Monday, November 19th as we don’t have refrigeration this year.

Direct any questions towards Mike.
