Sad News

It’s a sad day when one of our scouts loses a parent. Former scout Chris Liander’s mom passed away after battling cancer for a while.

The wake will be Thursday 12/6 at Kearns Funeral Home (across the street from RA) from 7P-9P

Funeral Mass will be Friday 12/7 at 9:45A at RA

On behalf of the troop I send our deepest condolences to the Liander Family.

Volunteer instead of Shopping

I have all the details and wanted to send out a new message as there were a few changes.

Date: Friday, November  23rd

Time: 11A – 3P (or until the food is done, we will start serving at Noon)

Location: PS 105 Playground (the schools address is 420 Beach 51st Street), but we will be set up at Beach 50th and Beach Channel Drive

Description: We wil be cooking and serving hot food to the members of the community.

Needs: I DO NOT need people to bring trays of food (this is a small change). I DO need people to come help cook and serve.

If you want to bring something, you can bring bottled water that we will hand out with the food. Also if anyone wants to chip in (financially) that would be appreciated.

If you have any questions or if you want to come help please email Mike.

GIVING Back. Please Read

On Friday I will be setting up a spot in the Rockaways and serving Hot food to the community.

This is something I personally want to do and am sending it out to the troop because I know many of you might like to get involved as well.

Here is the information I have so far (some details still pending, please come back to this post to check for updates):

Date: Friday November 23rd

Time: 11A – 3P

Location: Info Coming Soon

Description: We will be serving hot food to those in the community. Many of these people still do not have heat or hot water and some still don’t have electricity. We will setup at 11A and start heating up all of the food. We will begin serving at Noon and serve until 3P or when we run out of food

What I need: I need people to donate trays of food, need people to help setup & serve.

Once again this is not something we are just doing as a troop. It is something that I personally want to do and felt many of you might want to get involved as well. This is open to everyone.

PLEASE email me if you want to help, whether making a tray of food or coming to setup and serve.

Any scouts in attendance will receive Double Service points towards Scout of the Month.

Congratulations

I would like to congratulate Jose on a job extremely well done.

Last month when (before Sandy) we released the information about the canned food drive we were doing Jose thought it would be a good idea to use the flyers to bring in cans. What he did next was above and beyond what was expected.

He spent 4 hours walking up and down Metro in uniform handing out flyers and asking for donations. All in all he collected 118 items of food and $212.35

Upon speaking to him a few days ago, he thought that using the money to help Sandy Victims would have been best. With the help of one of the connections we made during our drive, we found out there was a need for blankets in the Canarsie area.

Because of his hard work, we were able to purchase 35 blankets which will help keep people warm in an area where power still hasn’t been totally restored, and had money left over.

Great Job Jose. You made a difference in 35 people’s lives, which is something you should be very proud of.
